130 Million RMB Donation to Tianjin University

On September 29, as Tianjin University celebrated its 130th anniversary, alumni couple Gao Feng, Chairman of the National Innovation Center of Advanced Micro-Nano Manufacturing, and Tang Huanxin, Director and General Manager of Mingstone Innovative Technology Group, returned to their alma mater with a historic gift. They donated RMB 130 million to establish the “Tianjin University Brain–Computer Interface Development Fund,”.

In his address, Gao Feng expressed deep gratitude to Tianjin University, recalling how the university’s pragmatic and truth-seeking ethos had nurtured his systematic and innovative thinking. He noted that Tianjin University’s recently announced goal of entering the ranks of world-class universities by 2035 inspired him to contribute at this pivotal moment. “Brain–computer interfaces are both a strength of Tianjin University and a vital future industry. I hope this fund will advance the university’s development and foster breakthroughs in this emerging field,” he said.

President Chai Liyuan, on behalf of the university, extended heartfelt appreciation, emphasizing that Tianjin University’s progress has always been closely tied to the dedication and support of its alumni. He described Gao and Tang as outstanding representatives of the global Peiyang community, whose generosity at this historic anniversary embodies a profound bond with their alma mater. Chai added that the university will continue to strengthen its development strategy, foster academic excellence, and join hands with alumni to promote new drivers of productivity and global innovation.

During the ceremony, Tianjin University Vice President Ming Dong and Tang Huanxin signed the donation agreement. President Chai also presented Gao Feng with a donation certificate. The fund will provide targeted support for faculty, students, and the Haihe Laboratory for Brain–Computer Interaction, covering equipment upgrades, platform development, and research incentives.

Tianjin University, founded in 1895 as China’s first modern university, has developed strong foundations in neural engineering and brain–computer interaction. In recent years, the university has achieved a series of pioneering results. On the same day, Tianjin University and the National Innovation Center signed a strategic cooperation agreement for joint innovation in key materials and core devices for brain–computer interaction, further boosting China’s capabilities in frontier science and emerging industries.
