New Chapter for 13,000 Students at Tianjin University

On September 23, Tianjin University held its 2025 freshman opening ceremony at the Peiyangyuan campus, welcoming over 13,000 new students just ahead of the university’s 130th anniversary.

University Party Secretary Yang Xianjin, President Chai Liyuan, and other leaders officiated the event. In his keynote address, President Chai urged newcomers to immerse themselves in the university’s legacy, to pursue knowledge with humility and perseverance, and to align personal growth with national development.

A series of speeches followed. Dean Zhu Jigui reflected on his 31 years at the university and encouraged students to integrate learning with service to the nation. Graduate student Liu Dongxi described his research on geothermal energy in support of China’s “dual-carbon” goals, inspiring new students to contribute to national priorities. Undergraduate representative Guo Wenhua expressed enthusiasm at joining the Tianjin University community. Graduate representative Chen Hongjin highlighted the importance of communication and cooperation. International student Masian spoke of her decision to study here, hoping to deepen China–Pakistan cultural ties.
