The TJU Binhai Industrial Research Institute(hereinafter referred to as the "Binhai Research Institute") serves as an innovation platform jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipality. The institute occupies a total area of 450 acres and has secured funding of 400 million yuan from various stakeholders.

In 2008, to address the developmental needs of the Binhai New Area, Tianjin University founded the Binhai Research Institute, focusing on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, synthetic biology, new energy, new materials development, and marine engineering. Its primary objective is to consolidate intellectual resources and promote interdisciplinary integration to drive technological innovation and economic development in Binhai.

The Binhai Research Institute aims to deepen cooperation with the Binhai New Area, enhance talent exchange and development, and promote high-quality growth in the region.
