Tianjin University has rich teaching resources and state-of-the-art research facilities, there are nearly 200 English-taught courses open to the visiting students. Meanwhile, Chinese Language courses are offered to help them learn basic Chinese. International Students who are willing to take courses or do research at TJU as a visiting student may apply to International admission office, School of International Education, TJU. Undergraduate students and master’s students are considered as General Scholars. Doctoral students are considered as Senior Scholars. Upon completion of the visiting program, the students will be awarded a completion certificate and official transcript.
Exchange Student
1. SEMESTER DATES for FALL Semester
One Semester: September 2026 – January 2027
One Academic Year: September 2026 – July 2027
(1) The registration date for fall semester is between Sept. 1 to Sept. 3.
(2) The last two weeks are exam weeks, and the exam schedule will depend on the specific courses.
2. NOMINATION & APPLICATION
Eligibility
(1) To be an exchange student, candidates must be officially nominated by TJU exchange partner university.
(2) Have good academic record.
(3) Meet the language requirement of the program when necessary.
(4) Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China.
Nomination & Application Procedure
Step 1: Nomination
The applicants must be nominated by their home institution. The nomination form should be sent to the following email address by their home university before May 15th, 2026: ies@tju.edu.cn.
Step 2: Online application
Upon successful nomination, students should access the link below and complete online application before May 31st, 2026: http://tju.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx
Nominated students should log in to the system and apply before the application deadline. To ensure the accuracy of the visa application materials, students should confirm that they have completely filled out all information in the system, such as passport number, date of birth, and so on.
Once the application is approved, the students will get the results via email.
Documents for application
(1) Photocopy of your valid passport, the passport must be valid for at least one year beyond the intended visa application date.
(2) Scan of highest diploma.
(3) Scan of the academic transcripts.
(4) Official study proof must be submitted with the application.
(5) A study or research plan. Applicants need to provide a study or research plan of no less than 800 words in English or Chinese.
(6) Applicants for one academic year must submit the Photocopy of Physical Examination Report from a public hospital. (The medical examinations must cover all the items listed and should be conducted after October, 2025). Please download the template below.
(7) Applicants for one academic year must submit scan of Certificate of Non-Criminal Records.
Step 3: Evaluation and Admission
TJU will review the applications. Before the final admission result is released, applicants may check their admission status via the TJU online Application System. TJU will issue Admission notice and Visa documents to those admitted.
3. PROGRAMS & COURSES
Exchange students coming to our university need to be admitted by a specific school. Once admitted, they can choose courses from that school. If they wish to select courses from another school, they must obtain prior approval from the relevant faculty.
4. PREPARATION BEFORE ARRIVAL
Visa application
All students are required to apply for a Student Visa (X visa) at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your country with your passport, admission notice and visa application for study in China. Please contact the local Embassy or Consulate for more information.
Insurance
International students are required to buy insurance at Tianjin University, please purchase insurance online (www.lxbx.net) before registering.
Costs: 400 RMB for a half year, 800 RMB for one year.
Accommodation
TJU will provide on campus accommodation for exchange students. The rate is about 60 rmb/night. Both Weijin Road Campus and Peiyang Park Campus of Tianjin University have international student dormitories. The campus allocation for international students is uniformly arranged by the university based on the current year's policies and the location of the campus of the international student's major. International students need to reserve online. If they are unable to reserve accommodation on campus successfully, the university will provide off campus accommodation information for students to choose from. 5. ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS
Students may request a transcript for the semester from the academic advisor in their academic school.
6. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
China Link Scholarship Program
In order to deepen the academic friendship and mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign young generation, and to build a platform for the exchange of scientific research young talents in the world, China Scholarship Council (CSC) continues to carry out China Link Short-term Scientific Exchange Scholarship Program (referred to as China Link Scholarship) in 2026. Please first confirm whether you are from an overseas partner institution of the China Link Scholarship program. The foreign partner university list can be download below. Successful applicants will receive a full scholarship from CSC during their stay in China, including tuition waiver, free on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and monthly stipend (CNY 3,000 for general scholars; CNY 3,500 for senior scholars).
