Lecture: Stakeholder Engagement and Simulative Personas in Spatial Planning and Development

Time: 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Oct. 13, 2026

Venue: Lecture Hall, 6th Floor, Building No. 21, School of Architecture, Weijin Road Campus, Tianjin University

Lecturer: Komgrij Thanapet, Associate Professor(Project Consultant and UrbanDesigner), Department of Urban and RegionalPlanning, Chulalongkorn University

About the Lecture:

This study examines the role of artificial intelligence in strengtheningstakeholder engagement and evidence-based decision-making inspatial planning and development. It presents an integrated approachthat combines stakeholder interviews, participatory workshops, complaint records, social listening, and other qualitative evidence. Al-assisted text mining can organize this material by identifying recurring themes, spatial references, emerging concerns, contradictions, andchanges in public discussion over time. The lecture explains how these findings can support stakeholderanalysis based on power, interest, impact, vulnerability, legitimacy, and influence networks. The resulting evidence is then used toconstruct diverse simulativepersonasrepresenting differentrelationships with a development area. Each persona records goals, constraints, spatial behaviour, exposure to change, decision-makingpower, non-negotiable conditions, and evidence confidence.Management of Chulalongkorn UniversityUsing the Propertymasterplan as a case study, the lecture demonstrates how multiplepersonas can independently assessplanning proposals underdifferent scenarios, including normal weekdays, major events, nighttime conditions, heavy rain, and construction transitions. Theirsimulated critiques reveal potential conflicts involving financial return, public benefit, accessibility, affordability, community continuity, mobility, and environmental performance. These findings can betranslated into design revisions, operational rules, phasing strategies, monitoring indicators, and questions for further stakeholder validation. The lecture emphasises that social listening and Al-generatedpersonas complement rather than replace direct participation.Responsible application requires transparent evidence tagging, privacy protection, recognition of platform and power biases, human review, and continuous validation with affected stakeholders.
