Yue Opera Princess Wencheng

About the Performance: Tianjin University will host a special performance of the classic Yue Opera Princess Wencheng on December 14, bringing a representative work of traditional Chinese theatre to campus audiences.

Presented by the Rongcheng Xiaobaihua Yue Opera Troupe, the production revisits the well-known historical story from the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty. 

The performance depicted emotional scenes from the princess's farewell in Chang'an and her arduous passage across mountains and valleys. It also showcased how she used wisdom and compassion to integrate into life on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, promoting cultural understanding and fostering harmony between the Tang Empire and Xizang.

By centering on the courage and resolve of a young woman entrusted with a significant diplomatic mission, the opera invited audiences to reflect on themes of cultural integration, mutual respect, and the lasting relevance of historical narratives in contemporary society.
