Pakistan Delegation Visits Tianjin University to Promote Medicine Collaboration

On June 19, Safdar Ali Shah, Deputy Chairman of Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission and Director General of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), led a delegation to Tianjin University. The group included Zafar Ali Choudry, Executive Vice Chancellor of Faisalabad Medical University; Wang Meng, Secretary-General of the SCO Hospital Alliance; Bilal Haider Shamsi, Executive Chairman of the Belt and Road International Medical Cooperation Center; and Muhammad Shifa Khan, Vice President of the Pakistan Pharmacy Council. Tianjin University President Chai Liyuan and Vice President Ming Dong welcomed the delegation at the Weijin Road Campus, joined by representatives from the university’s various departments.

Chai highlighted the longstanding China-Pakistan friendship and reviewed recent achievements in academic cooperation. He noted that education plays a key role in bilateral ties and reaffirmed the university’s full support for the joint application to establish the China-Pakistan Belt and Road Laboratory for Disaster and Emergency Medicine. He expressed hopes that this visit would further promote joint platform building, talent development, and collaborative research.

Safdar Ali Shah expressed gratitude to the university for its warm reception and emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening educational links between the two countries. He praised Tianjin University’s expertise in emergency and disaster medicine and confirmed Pakistan’s strong backing for the joint lab initiative, which he believes will support discipline development and capacity building in Pakistan.

Following the meeting, a seminar on the joint lab was held at the School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine, with participation from Chinese partner institutions including Emergency General Hospital and Peking University People’s Hospital. Discussions focused on future collaboration in faculty and student exchange, research, and resource sharing.

The delegation also toured Tianjin University’s medical exhibition hall, imaging lab, and pharmaceutical testing facilities. Both sides agreed to accelerate the joint lab initiative and expand cooperation in emergency medicine, contributing to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative and a closer China-Pakistan partnership.
