Scholar from Institute for Global South Studies Interviewed by Vietnam News Agency: China-Vietnam Relations at Their Best in History

On June 23, the eve of the 2025 Tianjin Summer Davos, Associate Professor Ma Jie from the Institute for Global South Studies at Tianjin University was interviewed by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), where he shared his unique insights into the current positive development of China-Vietnam relations and the prospects for cooperation among Global South countries. Following the interview, VNA published a report titled "Chinese Scholar: China-Vietnam Relations at Their Best in History" in both video and text formats, which widely disseminated Associate Professor Ma’s perspectives.

During the interview, Associate Professor Ma pointed out that China-Vietnam relations are currently at their best stage in history. The two countries have been deepening political trust, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges, making them a model for collaboration among Global South countries. He noted that the steady development of China-Vietnam relations has not only brought tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations but also contributed significantly to regional and global peace and development.

Ma Jie specifically highlighted that Vietnam is an important partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He emphasized the enormous potential for the two countries to collaborate in fields such as infrastructure development, digital economy, and green development. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of strengthening communication and coordination between the two nations amid the evolving global landscape and the challenges to multilateralism.

As a key academic institution of Tianjin University, the Institute for Global South Studies is dedicated to fostering cooperation and development among Global South countries, providing Chinese wisdom and solutions to the international community.

Vietnam News Agency, as Vietnam’s authoritative national media outlet, attached great importance to this interview. It featured the content across multiple platforms and in various formats. This not only reflects the recognition of Associate Professor Ma Jie’s research achievements but also serves as strong evidence of Tianjin University’s growing academic influence on the international stage.

Wang Lisong, rotating chairman of the council of the Institute for Global South Studies and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at Tianjin University, stated that the institute will further promote academic exchanges and cooperation with Global South countries, including Vietnam. He emphasized that the institute aims to contribute to China’s diplomatic strategies and facilitate the joint development of China and Global South countries.
