Recently, the Academia Europaea (the Academy of Europe) announced the results of its 2025 membership elections. Professor Ye Jinhua, Director of the Advanced Catalytic Materials Research Center at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tianjin University, has been elected as a member of the prestigious academy in recognition of her outstanding contributions to materials science and photocatalysis.
Professor Ye has held a number of distinguished academic and research positions. She previously served as Principal Researcher at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan, where she also directed the Photocatalysis Research Center and the Environmental Remediation Materials Research Center. Additionally, she held the role of Chief Researcher at the International Research Center for Nanomaterials and served as Professor at the Faculty of Chemistry, Hokkaido University.
Since joining Tianjin University in 2011, Professor Ye has led the Tianjin University–NIMS Joint Research Center, which has since been renamed the Advanced Catalytic Materials Research Center. Her team focuses on the design and application of photo-functional materials for energy and environmental applications. She has led over ten major national research projects, including the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) and several key programs supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Her academic influence is evidenced by over 700 papers published in leading international journals such as Nature, Nature Materials, Nature Catalysis, Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Advanced Materials. Her publications have been cited approximately 75,000 times, and she holds an H-index of 145. In 2016, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), and from 2016 and 2018 through 2024, she was named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics. She currently serves as Deputy Editor for Science Advances and ACS Nano.
Founded in 1988, Academia Europaea is a European, non-governmental association acting as an academy. Its membership comprises leading experts from across the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, life sciences, mathematics, engineering, and medicine. Election to the Academy is considered one of the highest academic honors in Europe, recognizing exceptional scholarly achievement and international impact.
Professor Ye’s election to the Academia Europaea reflects her significant academic accomplishments and the growing international recognition of research excellence at Tianjin University.
