On April 18, 2025, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Digital Dunhuang at Tianjin University” was held at Weijin Road Campus. Yang Xiuqing, Chair of the China Dunhuang Grottoes Conservation Research Foundation, and Zhang Junyan, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Tianjin University Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, attended the ceremony. Representatives from Tianjin University Press, the School of International Education, and the College of Intelligence and Computing also participated. The event was hosted by Pan Xiaorui, Deputy Director of the Office of Alumni and Foundation Affairs.
In her speech, Zhang Junyan extended a warm welcome to Yang Xiuqing and the delegation. Also, she expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Dunhuang Academy for its strong support. She noted that Tianjin University and the Dunhuang Academy have enjoyed a longstanding partnership across various fields. Coinciding with the university’s 130th anniversary, the exhibition showcases how modern technology breathes new life into traditional culture, offering faculty and students a unique opportunity to experience the artistic splendor of Dunhuang. The event is also a meaningful cultural addition to the university’s anniversary celebrations.
Yang Xiuqing introduced the development of the Dunhuang Academy and reaffirmed the strong ties between the Academy and Tianjin University. Over the years, the two institutions have jointly undertaken several major national research projects, including National Key Research and Development Programs and National Natural Science Foundation initiatives, achieving significant progress in areas such as environmental monitoring, digital technology research, and talent development. Yang expressed hope that the exhibition would further deepen collaboration and expand cooperation in advancing scientific conservation and global dissemination of Dunhuang culture.
Jointly hosted by the Dunhuang Academy and Tianjin University, the exhibition runs from April 18 to May 18 at the Alumni Home on Weijin Road Campus. It features high-fidelitymural reproductions, immersive VR panoramas, multimedia programs, and cultural and creative product displays.
