TJU and NXP Sign Innovative Engineering Education Cooperation Agreement

On December 11, 2017, the signing ceremony of the "Tianjin University–NXP Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Innovative Engineering Education (3E) Cooperation" was held at Tianjin University (TJU). Wang Shuxin, TJU’s Vice President, on behalf of the University, signed the agreement with Mr. Geoff Lees, Senior Vice President of NXP Semiconductors, and Mr. Zheng Li, President of NXP Greater China. Three government representatives including Li Ning, Deputy Director of the Personnel Exchange Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIITPEC) of Tianjin, witnessed the ceremony.

According to the 3E Cooperation Agreement, TJU and NXP will work together to build an AI platform and the North China Industry 4.0 Training Base, to explore a new model of industry-university integration, and to cultivate new engineering personnel.

Addressing the ceremony, Wang Shuxin pointed out that the cooperation linked up artificial intelligence (AI) and engineering education, teaching and corporate demand, as well as personnel training and industrial reform. “It is an effective way to gear engineering education to industrial needs”, he said. He believed that TJU and NXP would make full use of the opportunity to establish a new model for talent cultivation and to promote AI professional training.

Mr. Geoff Lees addressed the ceremony, saying, “NXP, one of the world's leading semiconductor companies, has been dedicated to providing advanced, intelligent and secure interconnected solutions for enterprises engaging in automotive production, the Internet of Things and communications. NXP is willing to extend its cooperation with TJU into the AI field and to share with TJU its advanced experience, technologies and products so as to cultivate high-quality AI talent” he said.

TJU’s notable alumnus Zheng Li delivered a speech on behalf of NXP (China) Management Co., Ltd. He stressed that NXP had maintained a good long-term partnership with TJU, with 40% of its outstanding talent coming from TJU. He spoke highly of the cooperation with TJU, which he believed was of important academic value and industrial significance.

Li Ning expressed his congratulations on the signing of the MoU of Cooperation. MIITPEC has witnessed a fruitful cooperation between the two parties, and it would continue to support their cooperation and exchanges to promote industry-university-research collaboration. Li hoped that the two sides would take this opportunity to give full play to their respective strengths to contribute to the development of Tianjin and to the country as a whole.
