How can advanced heat transfer technologies help make next-generation nuclear energy systems safer and more efficient?

Meet Xiaobin Li, Associate Professor at Tianjin University's School of Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on complex flow and heat transfer, advanced nuclear energy utilization technologies, and vapor-liquid two-phase flow, with particular interests in reactor thermal hydraulics and nuclear safety.

His work spans boiling heat transfer enhancement and control, reactor thermal-hydraulic safety, liquid metal flow, sodium heat pipes and complex fluid dynamics. By combining experimental studies with advanced numerical methods, including computational fluid dynamics, molecular dynamics and machine learning, he is exploring new approaches to improving the safety and efficiency of advanced energy systems.

He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, authored or co-authored four books, and led multiple research projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
