When disaster strikes, our duty to protect lives knows no borders

On June 24, 2026, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck northern Venezuela, followed under a minute later by a magnitude 7.5 main shock. In response to an urgent invitation from the Beijing Emergency Rescue Association, Tianjin University’s School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine stepped up to help.

Mr. Dong Wenlong, a teacher from the School of Disaster and Emergency Medicine of Tianjin University joined the Mingzhu Medical Team, racing to La Guaira to provide critical medical relief.

Armed with TJU’s cutting-edge, self-developed technology—including portable POCT devices for blood potassium and creatinine, a rapid diagnostic system for crush syndrome, and non-invasive multi-parameter monitors—the team brought vital trauma supplies and protective gear directly to the front lines.

Mingzhu Medical Team made a real impact on the ground. The team set up an emergency station, providing urgent medical treatment and disease prevention services to earthquake survivors. They delivered essential medical support to search and rescue personnel working tirelessly in the rubble. To prevent post-disaster epidemics, the team deployed large-scale fumigation equipment and disinfectants across collapsed ruins, refugee shelters, and temporary clinics.

Through their exceptional medical skills and unwavering professionalism, the team earned high praise from both local survivors and international rescue personnel.
