From 16 to 18 May, the Forum on the High-Quality Development of Chinese-Foreign Cooperative in Running Schools was successfully held at the Hainan Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone. The forum was jointly organised by Tianjin University, the University of Reading, and the Administration of Hainan Lingshui Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone. During the event, the Tianjin University Hainan International Institute and the Tianjin University – University of Reading Henley International Institute were officially inaugurated.

The Tianjin University Hainan International Institute was established by Tianjin University within the Pilot Zone, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programes. The first initiative to be launched is the Tianjin University – University of Reading Henley International Institute, a partnership between Tianjin University's College of Management and Economics and the University of Reading's Henley Business School. With a focus on the integration of engineering and management, the Institute leverages the outstanding educational resources of both universities to create a talent cultivation model that emphasises interdisciplinary learning and industry-education integration. In 2026, the Institute will begin enrolling undergraduate and master's students from across China.

In 2026, the two undergraduate majors offered for the first time at Tianjin University Henley International Institute will be: Information Management and Information Systems (with a focus on big data analytics and business intelligence), and Supply Chain Management (with a focus on smart supply chains and supply chain finance). Students will be dual-enrolled at Tianjin University and the University of Reading from the point of admission and will complete all four years of their study in Hainan. The Institute integrates high-quality educational resources from both China and the UK, with an international faculty and teaching model that features the advanced pedagogical concepts and original materials of Henley Business School, predominantly delivered in English. Students who meet the degree requirements of both institutions will be awarded a bachelor's degree from Tianjin University and a corresponding bachelor's degree from the University of Reading, with degree certificates identical to those issued at the home campuses of both universities.

At the postgraduate level, the Institute will offer a Master's programme in Management Science and Engineering, as well as foreign Master's degrees in Climate Change, Sustainable Business and Green Finance, and in Finance and Financial Technology. In 2026, two Master's degree programs will be launched: the MSc in Finance and Financial Technology, and the MSc in Climate Change, Sustainable Business and Green Finance. Both programes are two years in length, and admission does not require the National Postgraduate Entrance Examination. Enrolled students will be registered as University of Reading students and will also be electronically registered in the Chinese Ministry of Education's Chinese-Foreign Cooperative in Running Schools student registration system. Applications for the September 2026 intake are now open.
