A final of the 2026 Tianjin University Songzheng "Challenge Cup" Series of Science and Technology Academic Competitions was recently held at Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park. This grand innovation and entrepreneurship event at Tianjin University featured two parallel contests: the Entrepreneurship Plan Competition and the Science and Technology Innovation Competition. In total, 129 teams took to the final stage, with more than 2,000 students participating. Cutting-edge innovative achievements were showcased one after another, turning Tiankai Higher Education Innovation Park into an accelerator for student innovators.
The thematic planning, project solicitation, and evaluation criteria of this competition have been guided by the spirit of the important reply letter. It centers on the core requirement of "focusing on major national strategic needs, improving the quality of talent development, and better serving economic and social development". Entries targeted frontier fields including advanced manufacturing, next-generation information technology, biomedicine, new energy, and new materials. They also delved into livelihood-oriented sectors such as modern agriculture, new consumption, cultural creativity, and social governance. Interdisciplinary integration, industry-academia-research collaboration, and development-oriented services have become the most distinctive features of this year's "Challenge Cup".

On and off the stage, students demonstrated not only their technical prowess but also profound personal growth achieved through innovation and entrepreneurship. Ouyang Jiarui, a 2025 undergraduate student from the College of Intelligence and Computing, is a first-time participant. He said frankly, "The preparation process pushed me to break through my limits and grow." From topic selection and experimental verification to roadshow and defense, he experienced the challenges and joys of turning textbook knowledge into practical problem-solving capabilities. Yu Wangguangming, a 2024 master's student from the School of Marine Science and Technology, took part in the "Challenge Cup" for the second time. He remarked, "From project refinement to achievement transformation, the university's training and support have given me tremendous help and confidence." Supported by the university's two-level progressive innovation system, students like him can join research groups as early as their sophomore year, building capabilities and shouldering responsibilities in real research environments. Many other contestants stated in their defenses that they take great pride and feel highly motivated in contributing to key technological breakthroughs and social services in areas such as low-carbon shipping transition, brain–computer interfaces, and cross-Strait integrated agriculture, culture, and tourism.
