Tianjin University Welcomes Visitors to Crabapple Blossom Festival

Tianjin University’s 2026 Crabapple Blossom Festival and campus open days will run from April 4 to April 11, with a range of spring activities taking place across its two campuses. During the event, middle and high school students may enter the university without prior reservation, while members of the public may make reservations to visit either campus and enjoy the blossoms. Reservation arrangements for current students and alumni remain unchanged and are available through the university’s official WeChat account. Cultural activities will be held at Weijin Road Campus on April 6 and at Peiyangyuan Campus on April 11.

The festival features four themed routes highlighting the university’s scale, innovation, heritage and distinctive charm. During the open days, both campuses will also open a range of facilities to visitors, including laboratories, science outreach centres, libraries, the University History Museum and history museums of individual schools.

Tianjin University, China’s first modern university, recently marked its 130th anniversary and continues to attract students from across the country with its long history and rich cultural heritage. To welcome more young visitors, the university has introduced a special admission arrangement for middle and high school students this year. Students may enter campus by presenting their student ID cards at the gate, accompanied by a parent or guardian with valid identification. No prior reservation is required.

Visitors will be able to explore the university’s historical legacy through the University History Museum and history museums of individual schools. Exhibitions documenting TJU alumni’s contributions to major national projects offer insight into the university’s tradition of serving the nation and its enduring academic and civic spirit. Through these exhibits and stories, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the values that have shaped generations of TJU students and alumni.

The festival also offers a vivid picture of contemporary campus life. Visitors may stroll among blooming flowers, enjoy the spring sunshine, and experience the atmosphere of university life through student club activities, artistic performances and sports events. At the Feng Jicai Museum, they can explore intangible cultural heritage in a tranquil setting. Across the campuses, historic architecture and spring scenery come together to create one of Tianjin’s most distinctive seasonal landscapes.

For younger visitors considering their future studies, the festival will also provide a glimpse into the university’s academic and research environment. Project-based demonstrations in emerging engineering education will introduce visitors to interactive and innovative classroom experiences, while open national key laboratories and lectures by leading scholars will highlight the university’s strengths in science and technology. These activities will give students a closer look at future study and innovation while helping them explore their own academic interests. During the open days, the university’s admissions office will also provide consultation services for students and parents.

At Weijin Road Campus, more than 800 crabapple trees are in bloom, many of them lining Mingde Road. At Peiyangyuan Campus, more than 1,000 crabapple trees representing over 10 varieties are planted along the north shore of Central Island, with additional blossoms near Peiyang Square and in the courtyard of the Zheng Dong Library. Together, the two campuses are expected to offer visitors a vibrant spring scene during this year’s festival.
