TJU New Year Concert Celebrates National Spirit

Tianjin University held its 2026 New Year Music Concert on the evening of December 22 at the Tianjin Grand Theatre, drawing hundreds of students, faculty, alumni, and community guests to enjoy a powerful musical showcase themed around national pride and cultural heritage. The featured performances were played by the Peiyang Military Band and the Peiyang National Orchestra, offering a blend of Western and Chinese musical traditions that celebrated creativity, unity, and patriotic sentiment.

Opening the concert, the Peiyang Military Band performed a series of well-known classics that ranged from stately overtures to energetic global favorites. In the second half, the Peiyang National Orchestra presented a compelling program rich in Chinese musical traditions. Under the direction of conductor Jia Aiting, the orchestra performed a range of pieces that showcased the expressive qualities of traditional instruments. The concert's finale, Yellow River Rhapsody, invited audience participation in a creative and memorable way. This innovative interactive moment blended performance and audience engagement, reinforcing the theme of collective spirit and shared cultural identity.

Audience reactions were enthusiastic. A senior undergraduate student from the School of Marxism expressed that the thunderous energy of the marches stirred a powerful sense of national pride. Another attendee from the molecular science program said the participatory Yellow River segment made the music feel alive and deeply connected to Chinese cultural roots.

The concert continues Tianjin University's commitment to integrating artistic excellence with educational values, promoting what the institution describes as the cultivation of well-rounded individuals who appreciate both scientific inquiry and artistic expression.
