A gathering celebrating the 130th founding anniversary of Tianjin University was held in north China's Tianjin on Thursday, with the participation of alumni and guests from home and abroad and all walks of life.

Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University was the first modern university of China and adopted its current name in 1951.
